Who we are. . .

MYLAPORE TIMES, the neighbourhood newspaper, has been running a course for many years now on the Basics of Journalism - during the summer holidays for school children.
The aim of this course is to expose students to journalism at a stage when they have to decide on college studies and a career.
The course is basic in nature and is spread over two or three weeks, with two hour sessions every weekday.
There are class-based lectures and field assignments.

For the 2007 course, we decided to start a blog which would record the reports, pictures and other assignments/contributions of the class.

It is a good course and this will claim their rights whenever any issue esp civic issues are to be highlighted in the Press. The participlants need more field work since there are plenty of problems faced by the citizens of this city.Congrats to all participants who join this course and who completed this course. I am a regular contributor to The HIndu and The New Indian Express in Reader's Mail column and People's voice column respectively since 1990.I used to highlight all issues in the Press and there was good response from officials of this State. I am a regular visitor to this city of Chennai
