New Street residents actively promote terrace gardening

Terrace gardening is the practice of growing plants in the terrace space available on residential buildings.
.
The people of New Street in Mylapore have been pursuing the practice of terrace gardening for the past few years.

The gardens can be seen on the terraces of buildings that bear door numbers 72, 73 and 75 of New Street. The residents of No 72 and 75 started it 2 years back whereas those at No.73 started it some 7 years ago

You get to see on these terraces medicinal plants, organic vegetables and flowering plants.

"I started by growing a couple of ornamental plants, now we grow chillies and tomatoes too. It feels so wonderful to use it in our cooking. It gives immense satisfaction is using the space fruitfully. We're also planning to decompose organic waste from our apartment in future." says a resident of New Street.
