Residents of C.G.R Court on Thiruveedhi Amman Kovil Street in Mandaveli have come to realize that having a rain water harvesting (RWH) system in their campus has helped improve the quality of the groundwater.
The surprise rain this week was not wasted; it was tapped by this system.
Residents here say the rain water harvesting system was implemented in 2003 when the state made it mandatory for all buildings to have RWH.
They say that ground water level has increased considerably.
"There was a remarkable change in the quality of water after this system was installed. Initially water used to be brackish but now it is potable," said Hemalatha, a residents of C.G.R. Court.
